About this role

The Web Services Group in the Information Technology Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks a WordPress developer. Advance ORNL’s mission and support Department of Energy partner organizations. ORNL, the largest DOE laboratory, conducts research for solutions in energy and security.

Support projects from marketing sites to complex, data-driven websites in a large enterprise environment with 7000+ employees. Work on multiple sites and customers over a sprint. Manage time independently under tight deadlines, switching quickly between projects.

Join a collaborative WordPress team in an Agile organization using scrum. Monitor and fix performance and platform bugs as they emerge. Play an active role in standard solutions, CI/CD strategy, and infrastructure processes.

Requirements

  • BS in computer science, information technology, business, graphic design, marketing, or a related field and 5-7 years of WordPress development (or equivalent experience)
  • Broad understanding of the WordPress Content Management system, including core functionality and structure
  • Skilled with PHP and understanding its role in the WordPress platform
  • Proficiency with HTML and CSS for consistent, scalable style across sites and development of design systems
  • Experience working in an Agile organization and on a scrum team
  • Experience in web accessibility policy, concepts, and implementation
  • Experience developing custom themes and plugins
  • Working knowledge of Git, task runners such as Grunt/Gulp and NPM, and relational database structure

  • Work under tight deadlines and switch quickly between projects
  • Apply understanding of the software development lifecycle from requirements gathering through production implementation
  • Monitor and fix performance and platform related bugs as they emerge
  • Play an active role in creating standard solutions, CI/CD strategy, and maintaining related infrastructure processes
